You Are Not Broken: Finding Home Within Your Own Rhythm

October is ADHD Awareness Month, and this year’s theme, The Many Faces of ADHD, feels deeply personal.

Three years ago, I was diagnosed with ADHD.
It wasn’t something I set out to find for myself.
It began, as many of our journeys do, through love — through seeing my daughter and wanting to understand her better.

I recognised her spark, her fierce creativity, her sensitivity, her deep feeling. I saw the way she lit up when she was inspired, and the way she dimmed when the world asked her to fit into boxes that were never meant for her.
And as I began to research, to learn, to listen — I started recognising myself in every word.

The Journey to Understanding

The process of diagnosis took about nine months — a mix of forms, assessments, and long reflective conversations about how I experience the world.
It was both strange and healing.

When the official diagnosis came, I felt an unexpected mix of relief and grief.
Relief that there was finally language for the way my brain works — that I wasn’t just forgetful, chaotic, or too emotional.
And grief for the years spent masking, overcompensating, and burning out trying to keep up in a world that wasn’t designed for me.

That moment cracked something open — not just understanding, but compassion.
For myself.
For the younger me who was always doing her best.
For my children, who are learning to embrace their unique rhythms earlier than I ever did.


The Many Faces of ADHD

ADHD is not one thing.
It’s not a label or a limitation — it’s a lens.

It’s the part of me that dreams big and moves fast, that sees patterns others don’t.
It’s also the part that forgets appointments, loses track of time, and gets lost in a hundred tabs of inspiration.

It’s the deep feeling, the sensitivity, the quick-fire ideas, the passion, the overwhelm.
It’s all of it — the whole messy, magnificent spectrum of being human.

And the biggest lesson I’ve learned is this:
I am not broken.


Remembering Who You Are

Understanding ADHD has become less about “managing” myself and more about meeting myself.
It’s an ongoing practice of connection — learning to listen to my energy, to honour my pace, to create systems that support me rather than shame me.

Through this lens, I’ve learned that self-acceptance isn’t a finish line — it’s a daily devotion.
It’s waking up and choosing to work with yourself, not against yourself.
It’s letting go of comparison, of perfection, of the masks that kept you safe but small.

When you finally allow yourself to be who you are — fully, unapologetically, beautifully you — something profound happens.
You stop striving to belong in other people’s worlds and begin belonging to yourself.


Finding a Place to Be Yourself

If you’re reading this and you’re just beginning to explore ADHD — or even if you’re simply tired of feeling like you don’t fit — please know:
you are not alone.

There is nothing wrong with you.
You are simply wired for wonder.

Find spaces where you can exhale.
Where you can be unmasked, unfiltered, and utterly yourself.
Spaces that don’t demand you shrink to fit, but instead invite you to expand into your wholeness.

For me, that space has been in sisterhood — in circles of women who hold one another without judgment, who see beyond the noise to the truth beneath.
That’s why I do what I do through Sacred Sister and Wise Sacred Woman.
Because we all deserve somewhere to feel seen, safe, and celebrated.


You Are the Medicine

If ADHD has taught me anything, it’s that our differences are our medicine.
The world doesn’t need you to be more organised or less emotional — it needs you to be you.
Your energy. Your insight. Your heart.

So take a deep breath, drop the mask, and whisper to yourself right now:

“I am not broken.
I am wired for magic.
And I belong exactly as I am.”
