The Solstice Within Us

A sacred remembering at the height of light

Something ancient is stirring.

Even if you haven’t named it yet, you may have felt it:
That quiet ache to pause.
The sense that something is at its peak.
A whisper in your bones that says — breathe, take stock, begin again.

This is the Summer Solstice.

The longest day of the year.
The sun at its zenith.
The Earth in full bloom.

And no — you don’t need to be barefoot at Stonehenge or know your astrology chart by heart to honour this moment.

This isn’t about performance.
it’s about presence.

A Season as Old as Time

Long before spirituality was branded and boxed, people across every culture honoured the rhythms of the Earth. They built temples and circles aligned with the sun. They gathered to feast, to sing, to sit in gratitude for the light.

At Stonehenge, thousands still gather today to witness the solstice sunrise — where light pierces through ancient stone, exactly as it has for thousands of years.

Because the sun knows where to rise.
And the Earth knows how to turn.
And somewhere inside, so do we.

Why This Matters (Even in a Busy World)

In our modern lives, we rush. We produce. We push.

But nature doesn’t rush.

She rises.
She blossoms. She rests.

And the solstice reminds us that we are nature — not separate from it.
It’s an invitation to meet your own inner summer.
To reflect on how far you’ve come.
To celebrate your growth.
To soften into your light.

A Simple Way to Honour the Solstice

You don’t need anything fancy. Just start by noticing:

Step outside. Feel the sun. Breathe it in.
Reflect on your year so far. What have you survived? What are you proud of?
Light a candle. Let it represent your fire — the parts of you that are ready to bloom.
Give thanks. Whisper gratitude to the Earth, the sky, your own becoming.

I have recorded a free guided meditation, 12 minutes of stillness, reflection, and remembrance — a ritual of light you can return to again and again and there is more inside this week’s podcast episode to support you with your connection to this powerful time .

A New Seasonal Series Begins

This solstice marks the beginning of something new at Around the Kitchen Table — a seasonal remembering.

Each time the Earth shifts — solstice, equinox, cross-quarter — we’ll gather here to honour the wisdom of the turning wheel. Not because it’s trendy, but because it’s true.

You were made for rhythm.
You were made for ritual.
You were made to remember.

So here’s to the fullness of light.
To the path that brought you here.
To the parts of you ready to rise.

May you bloom wildly.
May you shine bravely.
May you remember… the solstice lives within you.
