STOP, WE ARE NOT READY YET!
Embrace the Winter Pause:
Why It’s Not Time to Rush Into Spring
Are you feeling it? Imbolc has come and gone, and that means Spring is here, so we must rush out and put our dreams into action. All the things we have been dreaming into and weaving over our Wintering are ready to bud and so lets hit the GO button and get them done…….
NO SISTER, NO…….please don’t rush!
As the days lengthen and the first signs of spring begin to appear, there’s a natural urge to shed the layers of winter and rush into new beginnings. But, before you leap forward into action, I invite you to pause for a moment and honour the beauty of this quiet time. Here in the UK, the weather is still cold, the ground is frosty, and nature is still resting. It’s not quite time to awaken fully from the deep winter stillness.
Winter is a season of reflection, of cocooning, and of gentle retreat. It’s a time for rest, a time to slow down, listen deeply to our inner rhythms, and restore our energy for what’s to come. Just as nature takes its time to slowly unfurl into spring, so too should we honour our own natural rhythms and resist the temptation to rush.
Many of us feel the pull to start new projects, take on more, or "shake off the winter blues" as soon as the first hint of warmth touches the air. But rushing through winter can lead to burnout, leaving us depleted and disconnected from the grounded energy that the quieter months offer. There’s wisdom in staying close to home, in wrapping ourselves in layers of self-care, and in allowing ourselves the time to rest and recalibrate.
In nature, the frost still blankets the earth, the trees are holding their energy deep within, and the animals are hibernating. This is a moment to honour that same quietude within ourselves. It’s a time to be gentle. Nature doesn’t rush, and neither should we. It’s in these quieter moments that we build the foundation for the growth that will come when it’s truly time to bloom.
So, if you feel a slow yearning for change, but are unsure if you’re ready to move forward just yet, know that it’s okay to linger in the quiet. Let the energy of winter nourish you. This is not a time to push for results, but a time to lean into rest, reflect, and set intentions for the season ahead. It’s still time for gentle healing and quiet growth.
As we near the official start of spring, remember: the earth isn’t rushing. Neither should you. The frost will give way to flowers in their own perfect time. So, let yourself stay in the cocoon a little longer. When you do emerge, you’ll do so stronger, clearer, and ready for the fullness of spring’s energy.
In the meantime, honour this time of wintering, and trust that the seeds you are quietly sowing now will bloom in their own perfect season. Be gentle with yourself – your time will come.
