Why We Don’t See- And Why Connection Is the Way Through

There are times in history when awakening doesn’t arrive gently.

It arrives through discomfort.
Through disillusionment.

Through the quiet sense that something isn’t right — even when life looks “normal” on the surface.

Many women are feeling this now.

A growing awareness.
A noticing of patterns, systems, and dynamics that once felt invisible.
A sense that once you begin to see clearly, there is no going back.

And yet — many of us still don’t see.
Or don’t want to.

The cost of seeing

Seeing changes things.

It asks us to take responsibility — not in a blaming way, but in a relational one.
It asks us to question what we’ve accepted.
It asks us to listen more deeply to our bodies, our intuition, and our inner truth.

And for many women, that feels frightening.

Because seeing often means:

  • Letting go of certainty

  • Questioning authority

  • Reclaiming choice

  • Trusting yourself again

And in a world that has trained us to outsource our knowing, that can feel destabilising.

So instead, we numb.
We stay busy.
We scroll.
We comply.
We hand responsibility over.

Not because we’re weak —
but because disconnection feels safer than awakening.

Fear keeps us disconnected

Disconnection is protective.

If we don’t see, we don’t have to change.
If we don’t feel, we don’t have to grieve.
If we don’t listen, we don’t have to act.

But the cost of staying disconnected is high.

When we disconnect from ourselves, we become easier to direct.
Easier to manage.
Easier to silence.

This is not accidental.

And yet, no system can take from us what we are willing to remember.

Connection is not passive — it is powerful

Connection is not soft in the way we’ve been taught to dismiss.

It is not passive.
It is not avoidance.
It is not “doing nothing.”

Connection is a radical act.

When a woman reconnects with her body, she begins to listen.
When she listens, she discerns.
When she discerns, she chooses.
When she chooses, her life changes.

And when women do this together — slowly, gently, without urgency —
the world begins to shift.

Not through force.
But through remembrance.

Why we gather

This is the deeper reason women have always gathered.

Not to be told what to think.
Not to be fixed.
Not to be rescued.

But to remember who they are — together.

In safe, intentional connection, our nervous systems soften.
Our truth rises.
Our clarity returns.

We begin to see again.

The Sanctuary as a practice of remembering

The Sacred Sister Sanctuary exists as a living practice of connection.

It is not a space of urgency or answers.
It is a space of rhythm, listening, and remembrance.

A place where women come home to themselves — and in doing so, quietly change everything.

Because awakening does not come through force.

It comes through connection.

If you feel the stirring

If something in you is beginning to notice…
If the world feels different lately…
If there’s a quiet discomfort you can’t name…

You’re not alone.

You’re not broken.

You may simply be waking up.

And connection is the way through.

Reflection Prompts

  1. Where in my life do I sense that I avoid seeing something — and why?

  2. What feels safer: staying disconnected, or taking responsibility for my knowing?

  3. How does my body respond when I slow down enough to listen?

  4. What kind of connection am I craving right now — with myself or with others?

  5. If awakening didn’t have to be dramatic, what might it look like for me?

If this has landed for you and you’re wanting to explore this work more deeply, I’d really love to connect with you inside The Sanctuary.

Our Founding Members Circle is nearly full, and we’ll be closing the doors for a little while soon so the space can deepen. From Imbolc through to the Spring Equinox, we move through one of the most important transitions of the year inside the Sanctuary.

This is the six-week period where we look honestly at the seeds we want to grow this year — and just as importantly, what’s been getting in the way of them taking root. It’s where we start to take real responsibility for our lives, clear old patterns, and begin making changes that are actually sustainable.

If that sounds like something you’re ready for, I’d genuinely love to take that journey with you.

And if this blog has interested you and you want more context, you can listen to this week’s podcast, Around the Kitchen Table, where I talk about these themes more openly and in real time.

Hope to see you somewhere soon
